UK and Canada announce new measures to address Xinjiang human rights abuses
On 12th January 2021, the United Kingdom and Canada announced new measures related to the human rights situation in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China. The UK’s Foreign Secretary announced multiple measures to help organizations avoid complicity in human rights violations in Xinjiang. Similarly, Canada’s Ministers of Foreign Affairs and of Small Business, Export Promotion, and International Trade announced a new approach to defend the rights of Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities.
