U.S. grants 90-day temporary general license to Huawei
The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has issued a final rule that creates a 90-day temporary general license partially restoring licensing requirements to Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (Huawei) and its non-U.S. affiliates. BIS added Huawei and sixty-eight of its non-U.S. affiliates to the Entity List on 16 May 2019.
The temporary general license issued by BIS allows 1) operations of existing networks and equipment to continue, 2) service and support to existing handsets, 3) vulnerability disclosure and cybersecurity research, and 4) necessary engagement for developing 5G standards by recognized international standards body. The temporary general license is effective 20 May 2019 through 19 August 2019.
