e.l.f. Cosmetics, Inc. settles with OFAC for apparent North Korea sanctions violations

On 31 January 2019 e.l.f. Cosmetics, Inc. (“ELF”) of Oakland, California settled with the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for $996,080 for 156 apparent violations of the North Korea Sanctions Regulations, 31 C.F.R. part 510 (NKSR). The apparent violations involve the importation of false eyelash kits between 2012 and 2017 from suppliers located in the People’s Republic of China that contained materials sourced from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). OFAC has determined that ELF’s apparent violations constitute a non-egregious case.
