New EU chemical weapons sanctions
The European Council has approved a new system to ‘address the use and proliferation of chemical weapons.’ The EU will now be able to impose sanctions on persons and/or entities that are involved in developing or using chemical weapons, regardless of their nationality or location. These sanctions will include a travel ban to the EU and an asset freeze for listed persons and entities. In addition, ‘EU persons and entities are forbidden from making funds available to those listed.’
