OFAC sanctions Iranian entities for human rights abuses
The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has sanctioned Tehran Prisons Organization and a senior official, Sohrab Soleimani, of state prison authority for human rights abuses in Iran. The sanctions, designated pursuant to EO 13553, concerns the abuse of Iranian citizen in some of egregious facilities such as
Evin Prison. These sanctions are a part of a broader sanctions to counter the Iranian government's support for terrorism, ballistic missile program, regional destabilization, and human rights abuses.
